I remember when we were dating, you suggested a 9pm curfew on our outings. It was important to you to get home so that you could wake early and spend time with Jesus before you started each day as a teacher. It was equally important that we protect one another during our time of courtship. it was bittersweet, but we both agreed to it. On that first night, around 8;59pm, I sang to you:
Goodnight, sweetheart, well it's time to go,
Goodnight, sweetheart, well it's time to go,
I hate to leave you, but I really must say,
Goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.
You chimed right in with a “do-do-do-dooo” at the end of each line and would always join me for the final “Goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight.” After a year of marriage, we continued to sing that song to one another every night after the lights went out. I enjoyed a million of these moments with you and still do.
I love you.
